Cirque du Soleil’s new arena show, OVO, is now playing at NYCB Live, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum Presented By New York Community Bank from August 30 to September 3.

This outstanding OVO show is a great last hurrah to summer.  We were all very excited to see the show. The newly refurbished Nassau Coliseum was really nice, comfortable seats that were easy to reach, quite an improvement in my opinion.  The set of the stage was interesting to say the least.

And a few minutes before the show began, some “bugs” and “bug catchers” emerged and interacted with the crowd, much to the delight of many!

are YOU a bug???

Summary of the show:

OVO, which means “egg” in Portuguese, is a production of a colorful ecosystem where insects work, eat, crawl, flutter, play, fight and look for love in a non-stop riot of energy and movement.

When a mysterious egg appears in the midst, the insects are awestruck and intensely curious about this iconic object that represents the enigma and cycles of their lives. It is love at first sight when a gawky, quirky insect arrives in this bustling community, and a fabulous ladybug catches his eye – and the feeling is mutual.

There were so many awesome and talented performers, as my Mom said, “you don’t know where to look first.”  They were amazing.

We all had our favorites.  I was so mesmerized that I almost forgot to take a photo of the performers that were beautiful flying bugs on ribbons suspended in the air and spinning from only a wrist or an ankle on the line.  Truly choreographed to take your breath away, with one movement flowing into the next so beautiful.  The picture doesn’t do them justice! And let’s not forget the music that accompanied all the performers, it let you feel the movement through the music.

My Mom’s favorite and I could tell this by how many times, she was saying oooohhhh and aaahhhhhh and hitting my leg.  There was an acrobat on a moving wire.  She was impressed with him walking across it and swinging from side to side, but then he kept outdoing himself.  She was incrediclous that he brought out a device and asked me -is he going to stand on that on the wire???? I bet he is and he did.  Then they brought out a unicycle. Not your normal everyday version–ohh no-not for this Outstanding OVO show.  He was upside down pedaling with his hands on the unicycle on the moving wire-WOW!!

Sean Eddie’s favorite part of the show was the performer with the Chinese Yo-Yo.  According to this nine year old–this was “THE BEST!”  I have to say it was very very impressive.  He juggled not one, or two or even three-but four at one time. Doing all sorts of amazing feats with them and they NEVER dropped–that’s why it was “THE BEST!”

My husband Shawn is not easily entertained and he said he was impressed with the entire performance.  There is so much more, but you really need to experience it for yourself.  So my recommendation is not to miss this classic Cirque du Soleil production that has thrilled more than 5 million people around the world. And I have discount code for discounted tickets–what’s better than that?
