Financial Fridays are here!
What are Financial Fridays you ask? Well I’d like to introduce my dear friend Susan Quigley, CFP. Susan will be posting on these Financial Fridays about you guessed it: financial topics that will be of interest to readers of My Best of Both Worlds. Susan is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) living in Garden City, NY with her husband and three kids, so she knows all about working making it the it between both worlds!
In general CFPs are great at helping people make sense of all the different areas of their financial lives – taxes, investments, retirement plans like 401Ks and 403Bs, college funding, insurance and debt management like student loans and credit card debt. CFP’s can also help with young couples “marrying their money” for the first time or older couples dealing with aging parents and long term care issues. Susan will guest posting with a series on these various financial topics, and she would love to know what you want to know about finances.

I’m looking forward to financial Fridays. Knowledge is power and when it comes to finances, we all could learn a thing or two.
Thanks for the post. Since this is a new series, would love to know what you want to hear about first! Post it here, or send me an email with questions at SquigleyCFP@aol.com or hit me up on twitter @SquigleyCFP. Have a great day!
I love talking about finances. It’s so important to discuss essential financial concepts with young kids, too, so that they grow up understanding the importance of savings.
Great series. Financial things aren’t something a lot of people know before getting out into the world so this will help a lot of people.
It’s always good to learn about finances and savings! This is a great opportunity especially if you’re feeling lost with how you’ll be able to save up. I hope a lot of people will be able to attend.
When it comes to finances I can never know enough. They go out of their way to make things so freaking complicated.
I am learning a lot about financial stuff. I do all the bills and our house in the budget, and I’m trying to figure out ways to afford my sons school that he will be going to for high school. I have now sat down with a financial advisor and we are on the track to get there. It’s so important to know your financial future.
I admit! I am putting money in jars for savings. Right now, I’m saving for my daughters car and college. I’ve got one jar that I just put money in randomly. I have a 2-liter bottle that I’m filling up with dimes. Another jar that I’m filling up with quarters and the last one is if a $5 bill comes into my possession, I put it away. So far, it’s been working for me. I’m not much of a 401k type person and that’s because I don’t really trust that our gov’t is stable enough that I’ll actually see any of that money. If I want to retire, I need to work on that myself.
I’m already loving the idea of Financial Fridays. It’s so important to always stay on top of your finances and be knowledgeable about it.
I’m like a squirrel, I get a certain amount of money saved up in a jar and then I hide it. And totally forget about it. I get to feeling poor and then clean out the bathroom sink cabinet and voila, 600 bucks. Not sure if it’s a great savings system but it keeps me from spending it! I’m ready for financial fridays to see what I can learn about saving and investing! 🙂
What a great series, I am all about learning more financial tips!
This is great information. It is so important to be aware of your money and where it goes and how much you need to be saving for your future.
Financial planning is very important. Before we bought our new home, we talked to our financial advisor first and it is a big help.
This is great! I can’t wait to check in on these Financial Friday series. Would love to learn.
What a great recurring post topic! My first daughter just started college this year and we would have loved some tips on the best way to save for college AND save for retirement.
Financial issues are so extremely important for us to plan! It seems like so many people feel overwhelmed or intimidated by it, so they choose to just do nothing, but it’s so important that we find help with planning if we don’t understand how to do it by ourselves.
As someone who has recently graduated college and entered the work force, I would love to see a blog post on the dos and don’ts of signing a contract, how/what are the best types of benefits to take out (health insurance, life insurance, etc.), how to best invest in retirement. Things like that. I know that for a lot of grads, that would be super helpful! For me, I was always calling my mom to ask what the best option was and sometimes it can get frustrating, so I think a little handy guide would be helpful!
I am interested in learning more! Can’t wait to read more financial tips from your blog

I have read everyone’s comments and I’m taking notes on what you guys want to hear about! Check out this weeks post – I’m going to start with the basics and get us started. Someone did ask me to explain how to work with a CFP or what a CFP does, so I do explain that. For those of you overwhelmed, a CFP can help you sort things out, and you can find one near you at FPANET.com using the Plannersearch tool. keep commenting or send in your specific questions. I’ll answer them either here or privately.
