“British Soccer Camp ROCKED!” And that’s a direct quote from my sonny boy Sean Eddie. Sean Eddie was so excited about his soccer camp he could hardly fall asleep Sunday night.  He was up early on Monday the first day of camp and in his uniform looking totally adorable (yeah so I’m biased as his Mommy-can’t help it).

On the ride to camp, we chatted and Sean Eddie asked me if I knew if the coaches were from England, because he loves Harry Potter so much and the English accent.  I told him, for all I know these guys could be from Brooklyn! But as luck would have it both Tom Biringham and Devon Haddock were from the Liverpool area of England.

First Day at British Soccer Camp! All ready to play.

Both coaches introduced themselves shook hands with Sean Eddie and I.  Tom had just completed University and studied sports nutrition.  Devon is going to be entering University next year and plans to be a physical education teacher.  One thing they both shared besides their “awesome English accents” was their love of the game.  Never having played before, Sean Eddie was slightly apprehensive about his skill level.  By the end of the week, he was dribbling and passing and running up and down the field, very much enamoured with his new sport.

The coaches move from location to location, the week prior to our camp, they were in Maine and there were four coaches total with nearly 80 campers.  Our camp had only a dozen campers registered.  After his first full day at camp, he camp home beaming and telling us stories of all the games and skills they learned.

He was nearly heartbroken to find out that some of the campers dropped out and the camp was being cut down to half days for the remainder of the week.  The coaches were very apologetic about the circumstances, and after Sean Eddie’s inital disappointment he recovered and made the best of the four half days remaining.

Each day my Mom picked him up (thanks Mom!!) and he regaled her with a stories in the car about their activities.  She even got to the sports complex early one day and got to see him first hand playing goalie.

On the last day of camp, his coaches gave Sean Eddie a t-shirt and a certificate of completion / evaluation.  They wrote in comments about his work on the field and his attitude.  He already hung this up in his room.

Apart from the camp being reduced to half day sessions, Sean Eddie really enjoyed attending the camp.  The coaches were well-organized and always at the sports complex early.  They were meticulous about signing the campers in and out for the day.  I felt comfortable leaving him in their capable hands.  I would certainly send him back next year should our schedules permit.  And you can bet he’ll be signed up for the fall neighborhood soccer club with his friends come September.

On Thursday evening Sean Eddie drew a picture of him and his two coaches playing football (because Mom-that’s what it is called everywhere else in the world). as a thank you to give them on the last day.

There’s nothing as good as seeing a great smile on your child’s face and knowing they are having a good experience.  I would definitely recommend the British Soccer Camps to anyone that may have a budding soccer / football star in their house!
