Brush your teeth!
Brush your teeth! I don’t know about you, but every morning and I mean EVERY MORNING, I have to remind my second grader to brush his teeth, before going to school. Can I have a moment of Mom ranting here? It’s almost Memorial Day Weekend for goodness sake and I’m still saying brush your teeth! I’m also saying put on your shoes and socks. Now you would think, this one would be a given wouldn’t you?!?
Nope it isn’t. I had such a laugh over it the other morning, that I actually took a picture of my sonny boy, much to his chagrin sitting on the floor getting his shoes and socks on and cracking up. I kid you not, you cannot make this stuff up!
When a colleague at work asked me about my kids, I bemoaned to her how different boys are than girls. And as the Mom of two boys, Colleen told me there is light at the end of tunnel, it comes at about tenth grade. She has finally stopped asking her son about taking a shower. I’m sure these years from second to tenth grade will fly by like they did with my girls. I’m still shaking my head to think that I am the Mom of a college graduate and my “baby” is moving out for good, going to graduate school and working full time! It’s another proud Mama moment as I type this. This is what’s supposed to happen-we prepare our chick-a-dees for the wide world ahead of them, but they always have a place to call home.
So I guess, I’ll take back that rant of mine and embrace the mantra of brush your teeth, put on your shoes and socks, because they are only with me for so long.
