Being Sinless is cool

Being Sinless is cool.  They say out of the mouth of babes right?  Well a few weeks ago, my sonny boy Sean Eddie was supposed to receive the sacrament of reconciliation.  Alas Mother Nature had other plans and dumped a blizzard of snow upon us all.  The end result was the reconciliation was postponed and rescheduled to another weekend  when we were out-of-town.

We got permission from the director of our religious education program to make it the following weekend.  Sean Eddie had been practicing his prayers and preparing for sacrament for quite sometime.  He and I headed to church and waited for the priest to arrive along with other parishioners who allowed Sean Eddie to enter the confessional first.  Upon exiting the confessional booth, he saw me waiting my turn on-line and returned to where we had been seated.  He then got started saying his prayers.  I felt such pride in that moment, seeing my son down on his knees praying as only a child can, my heart was overflowing with love and gratitude.

After my confession, I returned to the pew and kneeled down next to him.  Once I was done, I looked up to see Sean Eddie just grinning ear to ear.  I asked him why he was so happy.  He said he felt great, that being sinless is cool.  I smiled back at him.  Then he came to a revelation, that we were both sinless and said it again: being sinless is cool this time with two thumbs up.  I couldn’t agree with him more if I tired.  Of course I had to ask, so how long do you think it will last?  He as honest and said he wasn’t sure, but would to his best to make it last as long as possible.

To celebrate being sinless, we decided to go have some ice-cream.  I took him to small local ice-cream parlor that has a counter and home-made whip cream. As you can see from the above picture he was a happy little boy.  We got to have a great discussion about how good it makes you feel when let God forgive you and the mistakes you make by going to confession.

It was a great afternoon, especially in this Lenten season to come away refreshed,

Below is the prayer that Sean Eddie memorized in preparation for the sacrament.

My God,

I am sorry for my sins with all my heart,

In choosing to do wrong

and failing to do good.

I have sinned against You

whom I should love above all things.

I firmly intend with your help,

to do penance,

to sin no more

and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.

Our Savior Jesus Christ

suffered and died for us.

In His name, my God, have mercy.

Wishing all my fellow Catholics a wonderful Lenten journey as we prepare for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ as Easter.  Hope that you experience of joy of being sinless sometime soon too!
