The Big Apple Circus is in town!

Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park

in New York City

Oct 17 – Jan. 11.

There’s nothing like going to the circus.  Especially when it’s the Big Apple Circus with it’s one big ring. Everyone gets a great seat and is front and center to see all of the action up close. That’s because no one ever sits further than fifty feet from the ring!

Even with the New York City marathon under way, we were determined to get into the city to see the show.  A few people thought we should have our heads examined, but we know what a great show the Big Apple Circus always puts on, so off we went.  Due to all the closures, we parked at 37th and Eighth Avenue and walked up to 62nd and Amsterdam  Along the way we got so see so many runners that completed their race and at Columbus Circle got to see runners heading towards the finish line.

Talk about perfect timing, we got to Lincoln Center just as the doors opened which allowed us plenty of time to take some cute pictures and get ourselves all situated with plenty of snacks for the show.

We were WOWed as usual.  John Kennedy Kane the ring master, really gets you excited about what you are about to see.

2014 Big Apple Circus Metamorphosis 106

Metamorphosis starts out with the oh my gosh the most flexible contortionists you can very imagine.  And they do the most amazing jaw dropping act.  Seriously our mouths were open watching these women fit themselves into a VERY SMALL box.  Did I mention how SMALL the box was–because it was SMALL. It was so incredible that I only took one picture.Big Apple Circus Metamorphosis 110

We were thrilled by the razzle-dazzle of the Rolla-Bolla, the dynamo of the Diablo, the risky rhythms of the Risley team, the cunning conjurors of the Quick-Change which is actually one of my favorites.  I love how they change from outfit to outfit.

As for the brothers Anastasini Fabio and Giuliano were outrageous.  This is what I tweeted out during the show as we were all so impressed with their act!!

So if all this talent, fun and excitement isn’t enough to get you to go out and get yourself some tickets, here’s what I learned tonight something new I found out that the Big Apple Circus is non-profit organization, the Big Apple Circus runs community outreach programs such as the Big Apple Circus Clown Care®, which provides children with much needed entertainment, laughter and silliness in top pediatric hospitals all over the country. Thanks to its founders,  the Big Apple Circus is considered today as one of the most successful non-profit performing arts organizations in the U.S., and one of the world’s leading circuses.

They have some AMAZING programs to pay it forward and make sure that EVERYONE gets to experience the joy of laughter and fun that is the circus.  There are several community programs  dedicated to bring the joy of classical circus to healthcare facilities, children’s groups, and communities across the nation. Everyone deserves a chance to experience the wonder of the circus!

Clown Care, the Big Apple Circus’s signature community outreach program, brings the joy of the classical circus to hospitalized children at 14 leading pediatric facilities across the United States.

Circus of the Senses is a special performance offered free of charge to children with hearing and vision impairments and other disabilities along with their teachers, families, and caregivers.

Circus After School provides a unique opportunity for at-risk youth to develop life-enhancing skills such as teamwork, commitment, and self worth through a structured program of learning and performing the circus arts.

Vaudeville Caravan brings the joy and wonder of the classical circus to elderly living in residential care facilities, utilizing music, juggling, magic, and improvisational theater.

Circus for All! distributes free, discounted, and subsidized tickets to schools and not-for-profit organizations serving disadvantaged children, enabling them to experience the laughter, joy, and magic of the Circus under the Big Top.

The Big Apple Circus annually distributes more than 50,000 free and discounted tickets to public and private schools and not-for-profit organizations serving disadvantaged children, families, and the elderly. For many children this is the first time they will experience the joy, magic and wonder of the circus.

So now I’m even a bigger fan of the Big Apple Circus, because they pay it forward!

Happy Kiddos!!
