Three generations breaking bread at Panera Bread where else!

Panera Bread

We all have those days when we are running in different directions and last weekend was one of them.  Having to work an overnight shift at hospital to provide support for a planned downtime, I only got home on Sunday morning around 5:30 am.  Just a few short hours later, my hubby was getting our two younger children ready for a day out enjoying a close family friend’s birthday party.  Our oldest daughter was returning from college and expected home around dinnertime.

With our family split for the day and being so tired, the last thing I wanted to do was cook dinner, for Kaitlyn, my Mom and I, so the timing of this review couldn’t have been better.

I’ve been a big fan of Panera Bread for quite sometime.  I really enjoy the variety of items they have on their menu and the fact that there are seasonal changes.  I really love the fact that I can PICK TWO items and they are perfectly proportioned.  There are so many delicious choices the pick two comes in handy.  So I get to have my soup AND the sandwich of my choice.

I got the Cream of Chicken and Wild Rice Soup for the first time and was very happy with my choice.  To accompany it I got the Italian Combo sandwich order my way (which is never an issue at Panera) I had them hold the dressing and onions and got American Cheese instead of Swiss.  That’s another reason, I enjoy going to Panera, there’s never any eye rolling or sighs when I want to customize my order.  It’s made the way I like each and every time.

My Mom knew exactly what she wanted.  She loves Panera’s tuna fish.  She got Tuna on an Asiago Cheese Bagel with a pickle and chips-perfect in her opinion.

I have to say Kaitlyn was almost happier than me, that we were going to have dinner at Panera Bread and just the three of us.  Bonding time to catch up on all of finals with us.  Kaitlyn knew exactly what she was getting since I told her about our plans on her drive home.  She loves the creamy mac and cheese.  I have to agree it melts in your mouth, with its tangy Vermont white cheddar cheese sauce. YUM!  She’s a PICK TWO like her Mom (the apple doesn’t fall from the tree).  She got a Tomato and Mozzarella Panini.

Dinner was great, we got to catch up on how Kaitlyn did at school this semester, plans for the coming weeks and Gramma’s up coming trip to Las Vegas.   Not only was the food good, but the cafe was clean and comfortable.   It was so nice to enjoy the meal without all the hassle of preparation and clean-up.

Another perk at Panera Bread is the MyPanera club, which is free to join with no obligations and you enjoy surprises and rewards when you least expect them. I’ve gotten free hot and cold drinks, pastries and discounts like $2.00 off a PICK TWO.  Once you join, you get a loyalty card, I keep mine on my keys so I always have it with me.

Panera’s got some new selections on their menu.   Panera Bread’s new Flatbread sandwiches include:

Mediterranean Chicken Flatbread Sandwich – All-natural, antibiotic-free chicken, curried lentil hummus, feta, cucumber, Napa cabbage blend, Tzatziki sauce on freshly baked flatbread.

Thai Chicken Flatbread Sandwich – All-natural, antibiotic-free chicken, cilantro-jalapeno hummus, Napa cabbage blend, cilantro, peanut sauce and Thai vinaigrette on freshly baked flatbread.

Southwestern Chicken Flatbread Sandwich – All-natural, antibiotic-free chicken, black bean hummus, feta, southwest corn blend, Napa cabbage blend, cilantro and BBQ ranch dressing on freshly baked flatbread.

So do yourself a favor, don’t just grab a bite to eat on these busy nights as school is winding down and your running from one sport or activity to the next; take some time stop in at your local Panera Bread Cafe and enjoy a meal with conversation instead.
