Gil Patterson in a league of his own

January 29, 2014 in Baseball, Best of Both, New York Yankee Fantasy Camp, New York Yankees

Gil Patterson in a league of his own as far as I’m concerned.  Our Bambinos coach from last year, Gil Patterson is still an active member of the New York Yankees organization as a NYY Director of Pitching and was sent to Trenton, New Jersey the weekend of our camp.  While we were very disappointed in the conflict, he promised he would see us during our time in Tampa.

As I wrote in my blog post titled I Love the Bambinos, my awesome experience last year was greatly attributed to the tone Gil set for the Bambinos.   He made such an impression on us that my teammate Jenn (and roomie) came up with the idea to make Bambinos t-shirts with Gil’s Yankees number on it. #22.  We ordered them right after last year’s camp, got one for him and for our assistant coach Mario Garza.

Well Gil kept his promise and met us for drinks before camp started.  He was surprised to see his Bambinos greet him with hoots and hollers only to simultaneously turn our backs on him as he entered the lobby so he could see we were all wearing his #22.

#22 ALL THE WAY

Needless to say Gil was more than alittle touched.  After Gil hugs all around, we gave him a t-shirt which he immediately changed into.

Gil hugs rock!!

Then we settled in and Maria presented him with a photo album of all the best memories from the 2013 team.

Gil signed all of our shirts and wrote funny messages on each!  After many more laughs, Gil had to leave so he could catch his flight in the morning.  He promised he’d return directly from the airport upon his return on Saturday to catch us playing a game.

True to his word, toting his luggage he arrived at the Clubhouse for lunch and then joined us out on Steinbrenner field to witness our only win against the Georgettes.

We got to re-create one of our favorite team pictures from last year too.

We can’t wait for New York Yankees Women’s Fantasy Camp 2015 and for our favorite coach Gil Patterson to lead our team!
