National Adoption Day

November 13, 2013 in Adoption, Best of Both by MyBestofBothWorlds

National Adoption Day is November 23 and its a day to celebrate forever families!  November is adoption awareness month.  This annual celebration is observed on the Saturday before Thanksgiving.  I have always thought that is so great-what can you be more thankful for and what a wonderful family celebration Thanksgiving brings to so many.

As frequent readers know I am a very fortunate Mom I have My Best of Both Worlds for sure our family has been blessed with an adoption.  Adoption is a subject near and dear to all of our hearts.  My oldest daughter Kaitlyn, based her whole Girl Scout Gold Award project on Raising Awareness because she believes that every child deserves a family to call their own.

Right now there are well over 100,000 children waiting and available in the foster care system for just such an opportunity.  During last year’s National Adoption Day over 4,500 children had their dreams come true and became part of a forever family.  Since the inception of National Adoption Day in 2000, over 45,000 children became part of a family.

This day is also to raise attention to the sad fact that nearly 30,000 children age out of the foster system each year and don’t have a family to support them.

Rachel Crow, The X Factor standout, Nickelodeon star and Columbia Records recording artist, will serve as spokesperson for National Adoption Day.

Fifteen year old Rachel was placed in foster care as an infant and was adopted shortly there after.  Her sister Hannah was also adopted from the foster care system.

Rachel seems very passionate about getting the word out.  Here is a quote from the press release

“I’m here today to tell kids in foster care one thing: Love is going to find you always,”

“There is an amazing family out there just waiting to call you their own.

Until you meet, don’t lose hope and keep love within your own heart.”

The National Adoption Day Coalition created the One Day Project to give hope to children waiting in foster care, and to encourage others to adopt. The coalition is asking families, adoptees and adoption advocates to submit a short video about their adoption story, a few words of encouragement, or why they support National Adoption Day.

Considering adoption? There are many resources available to those considering adopting a child from foster care.
