World Book Night is almost here!

April 19, 2013 in Best of Both, book review, paying it forward, Reading by MyBestofBothWorlds

World Book Night is almost here!  I’m getting pretty excited about it as I’m going to be a giver of books.  Back in January, I applied to be a giver of books to promote  this fantastic opportunity and got selected.  You can read more about that process by clicking here.  World Book Night U.S. is a celebration of books and reading held on April 23, 2013 when 25,000 passionate volunteers across America in over 6,000 towns and cities will give out a total of half a million books within their communities to those who don’t regularly read. In 2012, World Book Night was celebrated in the U.S., the UK, Ireland, and Germany and saw over 80,000 people gift more than 2.5 million books.

Lisa Scottoline's Look Again

Lisa Scottoline’s Look Again

I’m giving out The New York Times Best seller by Lisa Scottoline a novel called Look Again.  It’s a specially printed edition just for World Book Night and says so right on the cover.  The synopsis of Look Again says: When reporter Ellen Gleeson gets a “Have You Seen This Child?” flyer in the mail, she almost throws it away. But something about it makes her look again…The child in the photo looks exactly like Ellen’s adopted son, Will. But how could it be if the adoption was lawful? Everything inside her tells her to deny what she sees. But Ellen  won’t rest until she finds out the truth. And she can’t shake the question: If Will rightfully belongs to someone else, should she keep him or give him up? Ellen makes the wrenching decision to investigate, following a trail of clues no one was meant to uncover. And when she digs too deep, she risks losing her life—and that of the son she loves.

What’s exciting to me is that this is another opportunity to pay it forward.  I’m hoping that its well received.  On the inside cover of all the books specially printed, there is a message about to the reader.

It states:

Dear Reader,

You are holding one of a half million free books handed out across America on April 23, 2013.  Thousands of volunteers across the country with the coordination of World Book Night, U.S. and hundreds of bookstores and libraries, have shared these specially printed editions with members of their communities to celebrate the joy of books and reading.

Whether it’s learning more about life of simply providing the escape of a really great story, no one finishes a book the same person as when they started (MY FAVORITE LINE!)  This book is yours, but we hope you will share it someone else when you are finished.  We believe there are few gifts more precious than spreading the love of reading, person to person.

If you’d like to share your thoughts about this book or learn more about World Book Night visit us at www.WorldBookNight.org or contact us using any of the methods below.
