#26 Acts of Kindness – Are you in?

are you in?
#26 Acts of Kindness – Are you in? I am! What is this you might ask? Well when checking out the post from a fellower blogger Isra better known as The Frugulette she wrote a blog called The Good, The Bad and The Ugly: Newtown, CT #26Acts. After reading I was inspired-thank you Isra for sharing.
#26 Acts of Kindness actually started a few days ago when Ann Curry tweeted about “doing something” in response to the horrible killings in Newtown, CT. She asked people to imagine what would happen if people carried out twenty random acts of kindness to honor the fallen children. Watch the three-minute newstory on the topic by clicking here.
Well apparently people seized the idea of and even increased the number to #26 Acts of Kindness to include the heroic teachers and administrators that lost their lives at Sandy Hook trying to protect the children of their school.
This idea is really taking off. I went onto my Twitter account @KathleenKL and was AMAZED at reading all the things people are doing when I looked up the hashtag! Check out #20ACTS and #26ACTS–I promise you will be moved into action and kindness. People are tweeting about how good it feels to be kind. What a gift to give this holiday!
Being kind doesn’t cost much. Smiling, holding the door, letting people merge into traffic, bringing cookies to the local police and fire stations. Have a few extra dollars, people are paying for other people’s coffee, the lay away bills for Christmas, purchasing a bag of groceries for the local food pantry. Send a card to a veteran in a nursing home or a care package to an active person in the military. The list is endless really.
I have often posted on my Facebook page some of my favorite quotes revolving around kindness and passing it forward. I think there are so many people feeling so torn as I described earlier this week that this is a wonderful and sincere starting place to heal. I hope by honoring and remembering the twenty-six that this will bring some small solace and peace to the families that grieve.
One of my favorites that really describes #26 Acts of Kindness is from Amelia Earhart:
“No kind action ever stops with itself. One kind action leads to another. Good example is followed. A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees. The greatest work that kindness does to others is that it makes them kind themselves.”

My family and I are so in!!! Thanks for posting this! What a way to honor the victims with something as simple as being kind but it has such a big impact.
I am up for the challenge! such a great idea, even in the light of this tragedy!
SInce the tragedy we have been helping and doing more for others.. Really since Hurricane Sandy and now this terrible act.
What a wonderful idea I’m in!! Thank you for posting this xox
The Twist family are up for the challenge!!! It’s so important to us to be a positive role model to our boys. What a great way to honor those who died while reminding them how important it is to always “BE KIND” and to have compassion for others.
Paying forward one day at a time. I’m so fortunate to be involved with a incredible group of women that do so much for families in NY that we pay it forward on a weekly basis. Sometimes it’s as simple as dropping off a meal other times its as involved as helpings mother in a domestic violence situation get out of where she is and move QUICK #26acts is something I live all the time and will embrace this challenge
I am in. I look forward to making people smile
This time of year we all look at being better and helping others. Hopefully our positive attitudes and acts of generosity will continue into 2013
What an amazing act of kindness from everyone involved. This world does need a little more people that are smiling more and helping each other out! Love this idea!
Thankyou so much for raising awareness of this. Such a heartbreaking time for those families. We need more acts of kindness in this world every day!
We started our #26acts yesterday and it was fantastic. We already do random acts of kindness all year, but it’s nice to dedicate them in memory of those that we lost.
This is such an amazing idea. I love it and I’m so happy that it’s catching on and inspiring these random acts of kindness.
I love that you included the names of the victims. I get chills every time I see it, but it’s all for them. We don’t want their deaths to be in vain, let us make the world a better place because of them. Thanks for linking up. xx (Oh, and my name is spelled Isra, not Irsa. hehehe
)
wonderful idea
I love this idea and love that everyone is doing something to impact the lives of those around.
It’s wonderful to see that people are so kind and generous at their roots.
While I haven’t been counting, I have been trying my best to give back whenever I can.
What a great idea! I think I’ll plan to do 31 RAOK for my bday next month.
