Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade

November 20, 2012 in Best of Both, Family Fun, Holiday, Thanksgiving, traditions by MyBestofBothWorlds

On Thursday, November 22, the 86th annual Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade will take over Manhattan!! Will you be there?? We will unless it pouring, but as of now the weather looks clear.  I began taking my girls on the Thanksgiving following 9/11.  I remember with clarity that I felt it was super important to carry on with our very American holiday of Thanksgiving and what better way to celebrate, be thankful and show our American pride.  We’ve since had the pleasure of seeing it several times more over the years.  Two years ago we even booked a hotel in Manhattan got there on Wednesday after school to watch the balloons being inflated, it was really crowded but lots of fun too.

The Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade with marching bands, awesome extravagant floats and massive balloons of Hello Kitty, Buzz Lightyear, Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Spider-Man,  and other beloved kids’ characters.  Trust me this parade is a real crowd-pleasing spectacle that features 1,600 cheerleaders and dancers; 900 clowns; 16 giant character helium balloons; 40 novelty/ornament balloons, balloonheads and balloonicles; 12 marching bands; 28 floats; and a host of celebrity performers.

The parade will kick off early at 9:00 am Thursday at 77th and Central Park West as usual. It will head down along CPW to Columbus Circle, before making a left and heading along Central Park South to 6th Avenue. Once at 6th Avenue, the parade will continue south until 34th Street, where it will make a right and head to Macy’s at Herald Square.
