What about ME time?

October 29, 2012 in Best of Both, Time Management, Work-Life Balance by MyBestofBothWorlds

One of the reasons I began My Best of Both Worlds blog is to express my attitude and outlook about my day to day life.  Many times the question is asked how do you find the time?  I know I shared some thoughts in my posting about how we all get 86,400 seconds each day-but what about thinking of yourself as a priority?  What about ME time?   How often have you found yourself thinking or saying the following?

“I wish I had more time for myself.”

“I’m always so busy! I don’t have any time to read a book or go to the gym or fill in the blank here_______.”

I know I am definitely a scheduler, I use my one outlook calendar from work and have personal appointments on it as well.  I am too busy to have two separate calendars, its a waste of time in my book to have to check two schedules.  So what if my administrative assistants know I have a softball game or am taking the kids to the dentist.  It seems like my calendar is always jam packed with things to do, people see and events to attend.  We are very socially active family and we enjoy this type of lifestyle.

However, I do make ME time!

Since we all lead these crazy, busy lives, my advice is to start out small. Try to set aside fifteen minutes of uninterrupted time so you can have a relaxing ME time, or read a book ME time or take a walk ME time. Actually schedule it on your calendar if you must-just so it’s a place holder and it serves as a reminder to yourself as well.

When you take time out for yourself, you re-charge and are usually better equipped to handle the stressors of the day.  This ability to find ME time is a gift to yourself.  You will feel happier and rejuvenated.  So stop wishing for more ME time and just do it.

And my last statement while I’m up on the soapbox is DON’T FEEL GULITY about ME time either!!  Enjoy!
