Christmas shopping in October

October 26, 2012 in Best of Both, Christmas Shopping, Shopping Strategies

And so it begins–with just about two months until Christmas, I have begun the shopping. Christmas shopping in October is not as crazy as it seems.  There were no crowds, toys were all in stock and I could move freely around the store.   Some of my shopping strategies are that I actually started a list in the notes section of my i-Phone to make sure I don’t over buy.  That’s what usually happens to me. I see something someone will like and buy it.  Then on another trip out, I see something else and think oh she’d like that and buy it.  I’ve also got a little list with sizes so I can shop and not have to guess.

When I get home, after the kids are asleep, my husband and I will bring in my bounty.  I try to match up the receipts right away and tape them to the tag, which allows for easy returns.

While I was in big toy store near my house, one of the workers commented that I must have alot of birthday parties coming up.  My response was,  “Nope! Christmas shopping.”  Upon hearing my response, two other people turned around to make comments.  One woman said to her husband, “see I told you it wasn’t too early to start Christmas shopping” and another woman said. “Me too!”  She had a sly smile much like my own, like we were both in on the secret.

Honestly the reason I hit up the toy store so early was the great 20% off coupon that I got via email.  I did purchase some birthday presents as well that are coming up.  No reason to revisit if I can avoid it.

“Three phrases that sum up Christmas are: Peace on Earth, Goodwill to Men, and Batteries not Included”. – English Proverb.  So remember to buy the batteries!!
