The Countdown… College Bound

August 20, 2012 in Best of Both, College age, Kids

In our house, we always look forward to vacation time, whether we are going away somewhere or we have lots of day trips and fun plans.  We even sing a silly song called the vacation song and sometimes even dance around while we sing the simple lyrics—””We’re on vacation—la la la la!!”

Well this vacation week seems VASTLY different.  Why, you may wonder? It’s because we’re taking my “baby girl” off to college.  Watching her progressive posts on Facebook counting down the days until she goes has seemed to bother her Grandmother and others more than me.  What got me was when we were at church last week and she (the typical teenager) said, I only have one more to go with you before college.  During the mass the tears began to stream down my face.

Many people have asked me “So how much are you going to cry when she leaves?” and for the most part my response has been I’m not going to fall apart and be a sappy sap—I’m so proud of her and so excited about this new chapter of her life.  I’ve done a good job, this is what’s supposed to happen and she has so much to look forward to living in the dorms, classes, clubs, travel abroad, etc.

Well with less than a week to go until we drive over four hours away to SUNY Cortland with the amassed volume of recommended items suggested for new college freshmen (not sure how it’s all going to fit in a double room that will be tripled-but I alas I’m off on a tangent-you can check out the list under resources to print your own) I wonder how much of a sappy sap I will be.
